Why do people say Michael Jackson wasn't a true musician?

When no matter what you think of the man, it's a fact that he wrote and composed more than half his songs, that is more than Elvis and Sinatra ever did.Why do people say Michael Jackson wasn't a true musician?
1) they have a bad ear

2) they are not musicians - they dont understand it

3) on purpose - in fact they know he was the bestWhy do people say Michael Jackson wasn't a true musician?
Do they? Never mind, eh? There, there.
They don't know what they're talking about. They're probably on drugs.
Agreed. And he could play piano to all the fussy people. And his voice was like an instrument.
Because people commonly mistake musical instrument as being outside of yourself or external tools when they fail to see MJ was his own instrument, his body, his voice, his musical intelligence. (Not a lot of musicians can do harmony but MJ is a master at it, I mean come on, have they seen him beat box? Isn't that musicianship as well?';

Whoever is throwing out the definitions of a musician is someone who plays instruments - really... fine, how about we replace musician and say entertainer. Regardless of what term is being used, that absolutely means nothing to the question. The fact of the matter here is that people judge Michael Jackson on rumors and lies, rather than his talents and ambitions. Michael Jackson was a song writer, Michael Jackson did play some instruments, Michael Jackson was a singer, Michael Jackson was a dancer, Michael Jackson was a performer - so it seems to me that Michael Jackson needs to be remembered as a person who entertained, sang, dance, performed and was a class act to all entertainment.

All of those who are going to continue to pull the ';little boy/pedofile'; card - move on. Find something else worth slamming him for, because quite frankly - that is not original, new, nor worth listening to you. You're speaking to the wrong crowd, and none of us find you at all funny.
In my book he was brilliant,he was the best dancer and performer ever,I was a teenager during his rise with the Jackson 5 and have been an ardent fan of his ever since and despite all his fame I think he had a very sad loveless life and deserved better
THANK YOU

Because people won't take the time to look into his music to find out those little tid bits. They instead want to just call him a child molester and a freak. To them that's more entertaining. I'd rather listen to amazing music rather than condemn an innocent man for something so heinous.

edit: To the first few who opened their mouths with out knowing what they are talking about.... AGAIN if you took the time to look into his music, you would see (especially on the Invincible Album) that Michael DID play instruments. He played the guitar and percussion.

And have you not seen the Pepsi commercial where Michael is playing the piano singing I'll Be There and there is a ghost image of his J5 self singing with him?? And don't say it's a commercial and he was faking. Because he plays the piano.
Because he is not ever seen playing a musical instrument, and although famous as a singer, and secondly as a dancer, and then known as a songwriter, he was never mentioned in the same sentence as a musician.
He DID play instruments. He wasn't JUST a musician, he WAS music. He breathed it. Watch him work, and you'll see that.

People answer questions with answers that are NOT based in fact. If you want to just be a smart a$$, go bother other people. Y!A even gives you a search box to gather FACTS before you answer. Basing an answer on rumors and ignorance is unnecessary and annoying.
Michael Jackson was 100% amazing and 100000% innocent.

People say Michael wasnt a true musician basically because they are stupid but sh'mon guys - you write me a song half as good as Michael's and then I'll listen to your criticisms!!!

I believe it was the History album in which he was credited for the first time, for playing the keyboard, drums, synthenizers, guitar and pecussions. And you're right, he DID write at least half of his songs. And when you see him in This Is It, it helps you appreciate just how in touch with the music he was.
What instrument did he play? Elvis and Sinatra were primarily performers, not songwriters.
Probably because he wasn't.
who said that, I mean just because he was a pedophile does not mean he wasn't a great musician
I class a musician as someone who plays musical instruments, he didn't so he is a singer not a musician.

OK so he played on recordings of his albums but he never played live on stage, that's what makes a great musician not just doing it in the studio.
He forced little boys to write his songs.
